Crawford is a Scottish name. They’ve been in this country for so long we tend to think of them as Appalachian. My great-uncle was an entrepreneur. He lived a long way from the hard road and hauling corn that far wasn’t profitable but he discovered that if he liquified it into mash and then distilled it into a commercial product the profits were higher. He was doing fine until the state trooper stepped over the hill with a two pipe shotgun and told him to stand hitched. He was given free room and board at the state prison.
