My father’s family is primarily from Northern Europe, in particular Belgium and if you go back before 1830 that means the Netherlands because that’s when Belgium won its independence. My father’s grandparents came. His grandmother was German and his grandfather was Belgian. My father’s favorite phrase was he being a poor starving Belgian. I’m not sure where it is from. His father kind of had a sense of humor like that. It’s really the name that’s everyone’s enamored with; it’s Van Vynckt. That’s how the village is spelled. People go, where are the vowels? And I’m like remember sometimes ‘y’?
My mother’s family is almost exclusively Scotch and Irish. Her mother told her their lineage went back to William Penn. – Randall
