Wellington, NZ, WWII, my father was a wounded American sailor out walking with a friend. They saw a couple of girls approaching and (he) said see that one on the right, I’m going to marry her. So he said, ‘excuse me, do you know what time it is?’ and here we are. That was a love story.

My dad’s side, we have a record of his ancestor at Battle of Hastings. He was on the winning side so the powers that were gave him some land and he was known as the one standing in the field, hence the name Standfield. I’m not sure how true that is. My dad was a storyteller. – Marjie
