I suspect my relatives came here for the very same reason other people are now: because they wanted more for their families They wanted a better way of life and America was that place at that time just like it is for some people now.
So when people talk about there being some sort of shady reason somebody would come here as a refugee or an immigrant, I question and I doubt it because people don’t leave a place that they’ve grown up in and they love and where their family and their history is from unless they’re compelled by some pretty strong forces to do something else.
My father’s family came from Scotland and Ireland and my mother’s family came from a town I think called Stettin now but it was Szczecin. It was right on the border of Poland and Germany. – Jan
