My great-great-grandfather came from Scotland. We have mixed, probably Dutch, English and Scottish. I’m told my maiden name is Irish. When I lived in New York, where everybody pegs you for what your nationality, they thought I was Polish but I’m not.

My dad farmed until I was born, then I ate so much he had to go work in a factory to support us. No that’s just when he happened to be when he went to work in the factory. He grew up on a farm, team of horses pulling a plow type of farming. He told me this story once, he and his dad got in a big fight. One owned the horses and one owned the plow so neither one of them could do anything.

I have a Ukelin from my dad’s side. It’s a combination of a violin and a ukulele. It was originally strung with horse hair. – Beth
